Hi All,

I am an software engineer focus on BMC, I'd like to know if Redfish specification states "Serial numbers shall not include the space character". ( Serial numbers means the ID in /redfish/v1/Systems/{ID}

In other words, Do we need to support the space in URI?

Please advise.

No, the {ID} values used in Redfish resource URIs cannot contain spaces. This is called out explicitly in the Specification:

- URIs shall not include any RFC1738-defined unsafe characters.
For example, the {, }, , |, ^, ~, [, ], `, and \ characters are unsafe because gateways and other transport agents can sometimes modify these characters.
- Do not use the # character for anything other than the start of a fragment.
- URIs shall not include any percent-encoding of characters.

We know that parsing URIs is very difficult if spaces and other percent-encoded or unsafe characters are included, which is why it's forbidden by the specification.
